The prime purpose of Haven Trust Supporting People Limited is to provide support for tenancies as well as those who have substance misuse issues. High Dependency support has meant that there has been a support ratio of one member of staff to three Service Users at each shift. This has enabled us to formulate support plans, with the involvement of Service Users, to encourage them to independence, self determination and self confidence.

A combination of professional help, support from organisations such as Welsh Centre for Action on Dependency and Addiction (WCADA), and other agencies has helped many of our Service Users to come to terms and better understand how to meet their challenges. This ultimately helps the Service User to sustain a tenancy and lead to independent living. Remedies such as sport and leisure pursuits, cinema, theatre, music, visits to the Gower peninsular and other similar activities have provided the vehicle to help each Service User to gradually come to a place of confidence and self reliance. Pursuing college courses such as IT training, welding, brick laying, cookery, plastering and other pursuits have enabled each resident to ‘find their feet’ and discover their self-worth. Each client then begins to gradually ‘go it alone’ until they are ready for independent living with corresponding support.

Staff will assist Service Users with benefit forms, finance, budgeting, rent issues and the drawing up of Support Plans and Risk Assessments to see that satisfactory outcomes are managed to bring each Service User to a place of confidence, self-determination and independent living. Support is provided on a 24hr basis, and at night a sleeping-in project worker can be woken on an as-needs-basis. There is also 24hr out-of-hours emergency on-call support covered by The Chief Exec, Manager and Senior Project Worker. This is to provide line manager support to staff in emergency situations giving direction taken at management level via off-site telephone support or when necessary by coming in to provide extra support.
